Rebuilding

This pandemic has been like a tornado tearing down so many aspects of our lives. Our previously honed habits, the changes we were in process of perfecting, wiped away in the whirlwind of current events.

Yet as the chaos subsides to monotony we look around at the destruction and decide its time to rebuild. With all of the work that is required it can seem overwhelming. After all, our schedule is shot to hell. Everyone is home, our routines are disrupted, our food environment is bonkers and exercise might be limited. It can seem easier to just throw up our hands and lay down in the rubble.

Look, the habit house might be in ruins. We may need to rebuild. But it won’t happen all at once, it has to happen one brick at a time. Identify the keystone. The basis on which we build everything else. For many of us (🙋🏻‍♂️) it will be a schedule. Make time management a priority.

Once we have our keystone in place it will be much easier to begin layering our old, desired behaviors back on. Don’t rush during this time. Focus on quality, on excellence, and take the time you have to make it better.

We have a chance to build back our structures of personal integrity to withstand any storm which comes our way. Or we can throw up any ramshackle building and act surprised when it crumbles at the slightest wind. Will this time in your life be looked at as disaster or opportunity? The choice is yours.
