There is no finish line

If you've been on some type of diet for 10, 20, 30 years and still struggle w/ body image and weight and hope... at what point do you think another approach is warranted?

I work with a lot of ppl (particularly women) who’ve been on a diet since they were teenagers. Struggling to create an outcome that’s always out of reach. Sometimes achieving their goals only to find that there is still some seed of discontent in their lives that made maintaining said weight loss impossible. And so they repeat the cycle for decades.

When we chase an outcome we will become laser focused on that end point. Often ignoring what it is that gets us there. Starvation diets. HCG or amphetamines. Exercising 5 hours per day. Unsustainable attempts to just make it to the “finish line”.

Except there is no finish line. Just another starting gate. And if we took an Uber to get there it’s gonna be a rude awakening when we find out that we’ve gotta run this race.

So when we start to pay attention to what really matters such as our relationships and our internal hunger cues and our emotional regulation skills, it can seem like we aren’t in the race. And we want to just call for that Uber again. Instead, learn the skills that have eluded you all this time. Learn how to create a life that’s not focused around your weight and see how that can affect the goal.
