We can't have it all

The hardest realization most of us must come to is that we will have to make sacrifices. To gain one thing we may have to give another. Yet in our western environment of constantly being bombarded by marketing to the contrary, we’ve become brainwashed that life doesn’t require hard choices.

You want to lose fat but your biggest obstacle is your social schedule? Guess what? You may have to cut down on the drinks on Wednesday and dinners all weekend and topping it all off with champagne brunches fueled by hangovers and avocado toast.

Want to be the best in your strength or physique sport? You might have to stop playing video games and swiping Tinder all night and go to bed early rather than trying to exist on Monster and preworkout.

If you are only focused on being healthier and creating a better relationship around food, we may not need to implement such drastic changes. Just focusing on food quality, moving more, and choosing our meals out more judiciously can all be reasonable strategies. But if you aren’t seeing results, something else might have to go.

If you have lofty goals expect more severe restrictions. And be sure what you say you want is true. If you aren’t willing to sacrifice you aren’t going to get there. But maybe that’s ok.
