I'm a morning person now
Early morning workouts might not be the most optimal in terms of muscle building or performance. But it's pretty rare that anything comes up between bedtime and 5:30am. Prioritize what's important to you and it becomes easier to be consistent.
I am not a morning person. Or at least I wasn’t. I was forced to early mornings when I became a trainer but once I went online that was no longer an issue.
As I’ve become busier professionally and usually working on a diverse set of projects, time becomes more limited. Much of my work is 1:1 time with clients and that can be mentally taxing. There’s no phoning it in when we are discussing issues related to emotional eating.
I was finding that by mid afternoon I wanted to find a reason to not train. Which is not like me.
I started out by attending BJJ at 6am. This was partially selfish as there’s a ton of talent at that class and the opportunity to learn is something that drives me. So values drove that initially.
Now, I’ve also started lifting early. But I also kept that block in my schedule where my training would go. This time is now one for education, content creation, admin work and even as a mid day break if I’m feeling run down.
The easiest thing for me is to just get up and go. No thinking. No bargaining. Just getting dressed and heading out the door.
There’s something beautiful about having training, a walk, a meal and my coffee all done by 9am. Work feels a lot less imposing knowing that I’ve accomplished my action goals before I ever sit in front of my computer.
