Health is holistic
Holistic health is about unifying the physical, mental & emotional self. Often, the first step towards feeling better mentally & emotionally will be to approach the physical.
Much of the work we do at Food on the Mind is focused around improving health. Not just weight loss or exercise but improving our mental and emotional health along the way.
While we approach a lot of skills and tools and strategies to improve our mental & emotional health we also place a big emphasis on movement. While I have a bias towards resistance training, cardio & walking all being a part of a complete lifestyle, sometimes it’s just about moving a bit. So often we focus on the outcome which is where I see so many ppl fail.
When our goal is only weight loss (which is a valid goal) we are focused on the outcome. While there will be arguments that exercise isn’t a great tool for fat loss, it’s a great tool for health. Exercise can improve mood, give us a sense of self-efficacy, create a community for a sense of belonging, and will improve health markers independent of weight loss.
As we engage in exercise we also tend to engage in other habits that contribute to greater health. We focus more on eating nutritious foods, we engage in more social activities improving our relationship with others, and we gain confidence in other areas of our lives. In turn, we start to develop a better relationship with ourselves. And that’s the good standard.
Once we’ve developed that better understanding of self, our true self, we can start to identify the parts that are getting in the way of growth. And begin to better understand progress.
TLDR; if you feel stuck in life try to attack the physical first. It will lead to better outcomes in every other domain.
