Don't change

Can you imagine what your life would look like if you had followed that advice scribbled in the back of your high school year book? Where might you be? Who might you be with? What might you be doing?

We all know those people. Those destined to live the life as a protagonist in a Springsteen song. And while the intention behind the comment is pure, the outcome would be disastrous. Never changing. Never growing. Never reaching for more.

I fear stagnation far more than death. Partially because I don’t really have a fear of death, per se, but that’s a much longer blog post and probably more appropriate for my therapist. But even death is another step in transformation. Stagnation, stagnation is nothing. A void.

Yes change is hard. Yes change is scary. But it is far less scary than waking up in middle age and realizing you are looking in the mirror at the exact same person from that yearbook quote.
