Don't go with the flow
Every morning the first thing I do, before I sit down with my coffee to write, is take Bigsby for a walk. I think, I collect my thoughts for the day, and start to organize my daily writing.
Lately, things have been a little different. I’m down in Charleston, SC for almost a month now and it’s long ways from Brooklyn. For one, sidewalks are at a premium. So we find ourselves walking in the street more often than not. There’s not a ton of traffic in the neighborhood I’m in but one thing I’m adamant about is preparedness.
If I’m walking in the street I’m walking against traffic. It’s the rule for a reason. When exposed to something as potentially dangerous as a vehicle it’s important to be aware and that means having vision. You can’t see what’s coming behind you.
So in your daily life, whether it be about food or stress or work, be aware of what’s coming at you. Set yourself up to be ready for what might come down the road. Don’t put yourself in the middle of the road with your back to traffic. Don’t go with the flow.
We can’t predict the future. But we can be ready for it. Set yourself up for success through vision and awareness and preparedness. You might not be free from danger but at least you’ll equipped to deal with what’s coming if you can see what you’re dealing with. That’s how we succeed.
