3 questions to ask ourselves while listening

Am I listening to win?

Am I listening to fix?

Am I listening to learn?

In the Food on the Mind Facebook group we had a guest post, a video by my friend Mark Schneider. Mark works with people who are working to overcome trauma and uses training as a tool.

Near the end of the video he posed these three questions on listening. And it struck a nerve. One upping and fixing are common responses when listening to the struggles of others. It moves us to action and deflects the difficulty of discomfort. But when we listen to learn, we are forced to confront our own feelings on a topic and deal with our own discomfort.

Take a moment when listening and see where your impulse takes you. And then think of why you are there. Listening is much harder than we give it credit. And there can be more action in listening to learn than all the winning and fixing in the world.
